"Kiosk literature" is what we call this stuff here.jurinummelinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16341211256652624861noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9919027.post-60079435670295171082015-05-08T15:18:57.217+03:002015-05-08T15:18:57.217+03:00And it's delightful that the ignorant "pu...And it's delightful that the ignorant "pulp paperbacks" is still as much used as an insult as a backhanded compliment around the world.Todd Masonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01815516018079824802noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9919027.post-7909094636476037712015-05-08T15:09:20.582+03:002015-05-08T15:09:20.582+03:00You won't like D'Andrea's political as...You won't like D'Andrea's political asides, as much as there are in that novel (I haven't read it), but what I have read is solid...TRUST ME ON THIS is excellent Westlake...still need to read SACRED MONSTER.
Todd Masonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01815516018079824802noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9919027.post-58653955618457957302015-05-03T20:27:29.376+03:002015-05-03T20:27:29.376+03:00I'll definitely be reading Steve Fisher. I've read some short stories by him and they were excellent.jurinummelinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16341211256652624861noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9919027.post-22672190638653354942015-05-02T16:35:55.918+03:002015-05-02T16:35:55.918+03:00Wow! Among the first that I'd be drawn to reading is Steve Fisher's "I Wake Up Screaming," partly because of my fondness for that sort of noir fiction, and partly because Fisher hasn't had nearly the attention of many of his contemporaries (Goodis, Woolrich, Thompson), even though he wrote much, and successfully, over a nearly 50-year period - novels, pulp stories, slick stories, screenplays, television scripts. He deserves a biography and more critical analysis.

Patrick Murthahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08103905929956454199noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9919027.post-50658802236026708232015-04-30T16:23:36.429+03:002015-04-30T16:23:36.429+03:00Richard: thanks, should've checked the correct...Richard: thanks, should've checked the correct use of the word, meant bad or uninteresting ora stinker.jurinummelinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16341211256652624861noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9919027.post-66464799812877539762015-04-29T18:34:46.221+03:002015-04-29T18:34:46.221+03:00I agree with Walker, why toss out books? One other comment: your use of the word doozy is opposite of its meaning to me. "A real doozy" would be a very good thing, not a bad one. At least that's how my grandfather and father used it.Rick Robinsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07978136287154214297noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9919027.post-46334532813463251762015-04-29T11:18:17.826+03:002015-04-29T11:18:17.826+03:00Yeah, I know, but I can understand people occasion...Yeah, I know, but I can understand people occasionally: these were stacked in boxes in a cellar and they had to be removed because there was going to be some renovation. Luckily the writer's daughter Facebooked me and the books got a new home. I should've also taken pictures of the cozies as well, there were lots of interesting names there as well. jurinummelinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16341211256652624861noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9919027.post-44902061823181885662015-04-29T06:51:33.029+03:002015-04-29T06:51:33.029+03:00I have to admit Juri that I don't understand s...I have to admit Juri that I don't understand stories about books just being thrown away. I have a lot of books in my house that I want to get rid of but I haven't been able to just throw them away as garbage. I looked at the titles of these books and there are some good crime novels. I'm glad that you were able to save them.Walker Martinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16089880902426182100noreply@blogger.com
