  1. I likr his perspective -- breezy, yet ultimately level-headed.

  2. I just realized that I had a serious question: Some time ago, I read a short story by Penti Kirstila that I enjoyed very much. Unfortunately, it was the only work of his that had been translated into English.

I think I've asked you about him before. At any rate, I enjoyed the story's deadpan humor. How typical is that humor in Kirstila's work? In Finnish crime writing overall?

    Thanks.

  3. Yes, you asked about this before, but I cannot answer your question, since I'm not an expert in Finnish crime lit and I haven't ready anything by Kirstilä. He's known to use some humour in his works, but that's about all I know. I can ask around - this time I'll promise I'll do it. ;) But in the mean time: can anyone tell Peter (and me) more about Kirstilä's humour?

Kauto's perspective sure is breezy. We may see more of his posts in the near future.

  4. Thanks. I knew I had asked about him before, but this time I was wondering about the humorous aspect of his work -- not exactly typical of what little Finnish crime writing has been translated into English. I understand Harri Nykänen incorporates lots of humor in his Raid stories, but the books have not been translated into English, as far as I know.

  5. Here's another writer I haven't really read - apart from a (quite bad) short story in an anthology. Some other readers should know more about Nykänen.

  6. Thanks again. I'm trying to pick up the information for an article I'm writing, so any information will go toward the cause of getting the word out about Finnish crime authors.

  7. Peter, e-mail me when you get a chance, I'll try to help in whatever I can. There are some reference works I can cite.
