I posted some pictures from my hometown, Pori, on my other blog
here. The article is about the Functionalist (=
funkis in Finnish) buildings in Pori, mainly from the 1930's and 1940's. I really don't know whether the architectural movement is really known in the US. There are some Functionalist buildings in the UK, but the movement was never big there. It may have been known under some other name, I'm not sure. (The Scandinavian Style, perhaps?)
There's a nice book on the subject, "Funkis - stilen som byggde Sverige" ("Funkis - the Style That Built Sweden") by Ingrid Sommar. In Swedish, I'm afraid.

As you can tell from the title, the term is "funkis" in Swedish as well.
I actually have the book, on loan from the library. And the name of the style should really read "funkkis" in Finnish, but some like ot use "funkis" with one K.
