The paperback line finally coming!

The paperback line I'm editing for the Arktinen Banaani publishers is just about to start. Here's a poster that's being printed at the moment and to be delivered to book shops all over the country. The first book, Duane Swierczynski's The Wheelman (as Keikkakuski), is coming out in March.

All the covers are drawn by Ossi Hiekkala. The poster is designed by Tommi Hänninen who has also designed the layouts for the covers.

[I do know one of the words is missing the Ä dots...]

They look great, Juri.

They sure do, Patti. I was tempted to say they look better than Hard Case Crime... No babes in these, though. It's a shame, but the illustrator guy said to me: "If you want babes, pick up books that have them."

Cool covers, great poster!

Thanks, Bill! I'm mighty proud of them - even though I didn't have much say about the covers. I'm happy there's a guy like Ossi Hiekkala working in this country.

Kevin, I can't begin to tell you how thrilled I am to have you in this.

David Wilson sent me this comment to use here:

Juri .. The lack of babes in a story has never deterred American publishers from pushing the sex angle. Look at some of the early paperback covers for Somerset Maugham, among many other examples. It's great that this new series of books will have their own style.

(I replied to him that he's right and that the lack of babes in these is also due to the fact that Finnish book culture is pretty PC, so it's possible a book with a babe in the cover wouldn't be taken seriously enough. And Allan's and Kevin's books are serious. Duane's maybe not so serious, but it's great nevertheless.)

This is fantastic, Juri. I'm also proud as hell to be part of this line.

And I can't tell you how impressed I am that your artist got the PA license plate dead right.
